DJ Renegade, whose real name is Kevin Gopie, is a pioneering figure in the UK hip hop and street dance scene. Starting as a first-generation street dancer in 1982, he transitioned to DJing in 1986 and has been a major influence in the music aspect of dance battles ever since. He is known for his work with breakers, poppers, lockers, and hip hop freestyle competitions worldwide, regularly DJing at prestigious events such as UK BBoy Champs, Battle of the Year, Red Bull BC One, and more. As a founder, coach, and mentor of crews like Soul Mavericks and Monsterz, DJ Renegade has played a crucial role in nurturing national champions. He also worked with the Ballet Boyz on their reinterpretation of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. He has served as the resident DJ for the UK BBoy Championships and lectured on urban dance at the University of East London. DJ Renegade remains a respected figure, often consulted on dance scene matters and featured in prominent dance event coverage.
